The Executive Committee of the Kurdistan Journalists’ Syndicate held a meeting with representatives from the JASNA Organization and the Center for Democracy Development and Human Rights (DHRD) to discuss challenges facing the media industry, particularly the obstacles encountered by female journalists.
The meeting took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the syndicate’s headquarters. Attendees included Azad Hama Amin, President of the Kurdistan Journalists’ Syndicate; Bzhar Hakim, Deputy President; and Handren Ahmed, Committee Secretary. Representing JASNA were Shwan Mohammed, President of the Organization for Freedom of Thought and Media, along with Nizar Ghazali and Avin Nasrin, members of its administrative board. Also in attendance was Shadman Ahmed Tawfiq, Project Implementation Officer at DHRD.
The meeting focused on reviewing the outcomes of a joint workshop organized by JASNA and DHRD, which spanned nine months under the title: *”Empowering Female Journalists, Advancing Equality, and Promoting Women’s Leadership in Media for a More Equitable Industry.”*
The primary purpose of the visit was to present the workshop’s recommendations to the syndicate and explore avenues for collaboration in their implementation.
The discussions were open and constructive, addressing the workshop’s key recommendations, the current state of the media sector, existing challenges, and potential solutions to enhance journalistic practices and gender inclusivity.
