On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (May 3), the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate reaffirms its commitment to the principles of defending press freedom, promoting a professional and responsible media discourse, and ensuring access to information\u2014pillars of any genuine democratic system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Advocacy Board for Freedom and Journalists\u2019 Rights commends the efforts of journalists in Kurdistan, who continue to carry out their media work in a professional and dedicated manner. It also calls on all official institutions and authorities to respect Press Law No. 35 of 2007 and other relevant laws that guarantee media freedom and freedom of expression in the Kurdistan Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Board emphasizes the importance of advancing the media sector in the region by strengthening the professional foundations of journalists and media workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the Board notes that the number of violations during the first quarter of 2026 has decreased compared to the previous year, which is a positive development. However, it expresses concern over the rise of polarized political and partisan rhetoric in some TV channels and digital media platforms, which has become a source of concern for citizens. The Board calls on those outlets to return to professional standards and avoid political and partisan bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Board also urges all relevant parties to continue joint efforts to protect media freedom in the Kurdistan Region, as it is a fundamental guarantee for citizens\u2019 rights and a stable democratic future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
