The Syndicate of Journalists’ Committee on Freedom of the Press Supports the Special Investigation Court

Regarding Cases Related to Journalists In an administrative order, the Presidency of the Sulaymaniyah Court of Appeal has decided to assign the Sulaymaniyah Investigation Court No. 1 with the special task of examining and investigating cases related to journalists. Additionally, the order is based on Law No. 35 of 2007, which serves as the foundation for its work. Subsequently, the cases will be referred to the Sulaymaniyah Criminal Court No. 6 for trial.

The Syndicate of Journalists’ Committee on Freedom of the Press and Journalists’ Rights fully supports this step and commits to assisting in the implementation of this decision. In past years and on various occasions, the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate has requested the establishment of a specialized court to handle cases related to journalism, freedom of expression, and the enforcement of Journalism Law No. 35 of 2007.

The Committee also hopes that this decision will be applied uniformly across all cities in the Kurdistan Region and that it will be effectively implemented.
