On behalf of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), the world’s largest organisation of journalists representing 600,000 journalists in 148 countries, I would like to wish the Kurdish Journalists’ Union a very happy 127th anniversary and a wonderful Kurdish Journalism Day.
The IFJ would like to congratulate the president of the KJS, our friend Azad Hamadamin, and all his team for their work.
I remember an excellent conference in 2024 in Erbil and I would like to recall today that there was an interesting discussion on the establishment of an ethics council in Iraqi Kurdistan. I believe that the time has now come for the profession to set this up and, as General Secretary, I remain at your disposal if you need any help or advice. This body is essential for all democracies, for journalists and for the public, in order to rebuild trust.
Once again, I wish you all the best.
Anthony Bellanger
General Secretary
