As part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, today, 25 November, the High Council of Women and Development launched its campaign with an activity titled “Together Against Electronic Violence Targeting Women and Girls”, beginning with the announcement of the Media Professional Conduct Charter.
The activity included speeches by the Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Khanzad Ahmad, Secretary-General of the High Council of Women and Development; Azad Hama-Damin, Spokesperson of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate; and the attendance of the Minister of Culture and Social Affairs, the Minister of Education, representatives of European consulates in the Kurdistan Region, the President of the Kurdistan Academy, university professors, representatives of civil society organizations, several judges, legal experts, media professionals, and activists working in the field of women’s and girls’ rights.
Following the speeches, a discussion panel was held regarding the Media Professional Conduct Charter, featuring: Hendrin Ahmad, Secretary of the Syndicate Council; Tania Galy, founder of SEED Organization; Rahman Gharib, head of Metro Center; Maryam Qaradakhi, social media activist; and Dilzar Nazar, founder of Ma Magazine.
At the conclusion of the event, emphasis was placed on the importance of coordinated and collective work among all relevant sectors in the Kurdistan Region to prevent all forms of digital violence, particularly in the media sector.
